1974 Dodge Challenger By Trevor Singleton

1974 Dodge Challenger

As promised, here are some pictures of my slightly modified 74 challenger. Up until about 4 months ago I used to be a die hard GM fan. Nobody could convince me to to buy anything else. Then one day I was driving my 97 Sunfire, when I happened to spot a red 74 challenger parked in a local dealer ship. I thought what harm can looking at it do. So a looked it over top to bottom, and here's what I saw. 440 Six Pack, 4 speed tranny with Hurst pistol grip shifter. 4.10 gears stuffed in an 8 3/4 rear end...sweet. The frame had sub-frame connectors so I figured it had been raced.. That and the fact it used to have line-loc on it. I spoke to the dealer and it turns out it used to be a 318 car.. USED TO BE.

I took the car for a test drive and imagined it in my yard. I did not go home with it that day though. The following day while driving the Sunfire a friend pulled up beside me in his 88 Mustang 5.0, and wanted to race. I said sure, why not my sunfire is pretty quick for a 4 banger, the 5 speed works great. I lost. The following day I traded the Sunfire, and drove home in the Challenger. My pride got the better of me. Needless to say, I was not denied my victory the next time we met.

Anyway my plan for the car is to restore it to original shape. As of right now the car has a 3.23 set of gears (70 mph on the 4.10's MAX) plus gas is too expensive. A set of traction bars, a burned out clutch.. oops. (it was that way when I bought it really) The new one will be a dual friction centerforce clutch. Which will be able to handle some serious HP. My next
purchase will be another 74 challenger.. This one will be a super stocker drag racer.

Thanks Trevor Singleton
