HI, here is my submission for Mopar of the
month. It is a 1989 Dodge Daytona Shelby intercooled turbo. This
Daytona came from the factory with a 2.2 liter intercooled turbo engine
mated to an A555 Getrag gearset 5 speed transmission which produced 174
bhp/200
lb/ft torque at the flywheel. This car came fully loaded with
leather interior, tilt, cruise, power windows & locks, 8 way power
adjustable seats & the highly sought after "T"-bar roof
package. 1989 was also the last year the Daytona line up would
receive this option & the
intercooled 2.2 Turbo II engine. Other intercooled options for
later years were the VNT for 1990 (turbo IV) & the 16 valve engine
for 92/3 (turbo III).
I bought this car from an
auto salvage yard in February of 1999 for $600. It has taken over
a 1.5 years & over $5000 but I have restored this car to nearly
pristine condition. In July of 2000 I attended the Carlisle
all Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle PA & I put my car up on the Mopar
Muscle Magazine Dyno Challenge. The actual HP rating was
218.2/305.9 with only 16 lbs of boost. I ended up being one of the lucky 16 that
Mopar Muscle picked to be in the Dec '00 issue which can be seen on page
35. I also took the car out to a Mopar
car show where out of 7 FWD Mopars, I was able to take home a 1st place
trophy. I plan to do a little more work over
the winter of 2000/01 to make the car look like show room condition & I
also plan on a lot more HP with the addition of a larger turbo,
larger intercooler & more boost. Thanks
