I started the
restoration of my 1970 Dodge Challenger 383 Magnum January
16th, 1998. At this time the car was in poor condition and
had been stored in a carport for a long time and there was a
great deal of rust on the lower part of the car. The young
fellow who had bought the car from the original owner had
also removed the vinyl roof and ran out of money to do any
work on the car. The car had to be brought to my garage by a
car carrier as it was not running.
With the
assistance of my body man Trev Hagerty we totally stripped
the car down to a shell, had it walnut shelled, repaired the
body damage and put the car back together following the
fender tag and build sheet so the car now looks as it did
when it came off the production line. We had most of the motor powder coated.
This car
brings back so many memories for some people. They are always
stopping me in parking lots and want to talk about the
great cars of the 70's.
Completed the car August 20th,
1998
Sincerely,
Harry Scaife
