1970 Plymouth 'Cuda By Bill Wonder

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda By Bill Wonder

Hi, my name's Bill Wonder. I'm Secretary/Newsletter Editor for the Mid-America E-Body Mopar Club. Here's a few of shots of my 1970 U-Code 'Cuda (375 h.p. 440 4 bbl.). I purchased this car in October of 1990 in western South Dakota. . .it had been stored in a barn since 1982 and was still wearing that year plates. The tires were bald, plug wires cracked, rusty and leaking exhaust, it had a rubber fuel line running to a Holley carburetor, big A** solid-lifter camshaft, and we had to jump start it, but drove it 550 miles home at 65 miles per hour across the entire state of South Dakota.

A South Dakota car, it was sold new in Sioux Falls and was originally a dealer demonstrator (coded Y13 on the build sheet). 1970 was the only year of the E-Body you could get the 440 4 bbl. engine and just 618 hardtops were built with the Torqueflite automatic (334 with a 4-speed) making them actually rarer than a 440-6 car! After a 'clean up' and driving, collecting parts, trim, accessories and even showing the car over the past 12 years, it went into the shop in March of 2002 for some much needed attention.

The 'Cuda came home in February of 2003 looking like this! Options include ps, pb, Hemi suspension, Rallye 3-speaker dash, AM-FM Thumbwheel Multiplex Radio, 'Fish Cap' Rimblow Steering Wheel, Leather interior, Floor Console, Overhead Console, A21 code Elastomeric 'Rubber' front bumper Pkg. Dual Chrome Rallye Racing Mirrors, Belt Moldings, 'Fish Gill' Rocker Moldings, Wheel Lip Moldings, SHAKER hood, Black Vinyl Top, Black 'Hockey Stick' Stripes, and I've added the rear Go-Wing Spoiler (the car originally came with a Luggage Rack!), Front 'Chin' Spoilers, and Rear Window Louvers and a console-mounted Factory Cassette Player.

I've also replaced the solid-lifter cam with a milder (yet still 'rumpy') hydraulic stick, cleaned-up and retained the big tube headers and added 2 1/4" exhaust all the way back with Hemi Mufflers and the factory exhaust tips through the rear valance. It also came from the factory with 14" Magnum 500 Road Wheels, but now runs 15 x 8" and 14 x 6" Cragar S/S wheels on P275 60R 15 and P235 60R 14 B.F. Goodrich T/A Radials.

Thanks,
Bill Wonder
