1985 Dodge Shelby Charger By Kevin Isenberg

This is my 1985 Dodge Shelby Charger.  I purchased the car in August 1995.  In December 1996, this car was hit hard at an intersection.  I decided to fix it instead of sending it to the junkyard.  I converted it to turbo 2 a few years back and enjoyed beating up on Mustangs and Corvettes.

Of course, I wanted to go faster and got tired of the ratty look of the car, so I took it apart in 2002 for a repaint and new engine. After two years of hard work, here are the results.  Everything was done in my 3 car garage.

I'd like to thank my friend, Brian Hatton for doing the major body work and spraying a flawless paint job.

Under the hood is a balanced 1989 common block with .040 over JE forged pistons, forged crank, and shot peened factory 2.2 rods.  The Turbonetics T3/TO4E hybrid turbo blows through a front mounted Spearco intercooler, homebuilt 2.5" intercooler pipe, a ported one piece intake manifold, a 52 mm throttle body, and a fully ported/oversize valve "G" head.  The fuel system consists of a Walbro 255 l/hr fuel pump and Mopar Performance 52 lb/hr injectors.  Exhaust flows through a log header, mandrel bent 3" pipe, and a Walker Bullet muffler before it exits in front of the left rear tire.

The car rides on fully adjustable Koni coilvers with Eibach coils.  The wheels are 1987 Shelby Lancer CSS wheels.  I redyed the interior plastic and replaced my worn original seats and door panels with some from a rolled 1987 GLHS.  There are really too many current and future modifications to list.  Hopefully, the car will see some low 11 second 1/4 mile passes in the future.
