1970 Dodge Challenger R/T By Steve Reid ( Page1 - Page2 )

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T By Steve Reid

My 1970 Challenger R/T convertible started out life in the San Francisco bay area where it was apparently driven for approximately 8 years (By who I do not know) and then traded in to Gil Hile used cars in 1978. Gil Hile was a Bay Area fixture back in the 60's and 70's and he and his used car lot hosted a late night monster movie program on local Bay Area TV. He apparently started each show that he had a full pack of cools or something to that effect. Gil had the Challenger until 1983 when it was sold to Charles L.

Charles took it apart and then lost interest. In 1995 a friend of mine Dave S. acquired the car by chance by doing some trading (Dave owns a high end paint and body empire). Dave is a Chevy guy and owns some of the most valuable and high end Chevy's I have ever personally seen that include a '68 COPO 427 Camaro convertible, a '67 427 corvette, a 1969 Yenko Camaro, etc.

Dave sent his guys over to Charles L.'s home and picked up the car literally in pieces and had it taken back to his shop where he then put his best guy on the project. The result is probably the nicest paint job that I have ever seen. Dave got as far as the paint and then got married, business expanded, bought another house, acquired several more high end Chevy's. The Challenger was thrown on the back burner and tucked away in his massive garage.

I met Dave through a mutual friend about a year or so ago over dinner.  A mutual friend brought up to Dave the fact that I was the one who had the 1970 440-6 pack V code Superbee. (My friend Larry had mentioned to Dave years ago that I had that car) and Dave mentioned that he had a 1970 Challenger convertible. Click Here To Continue!
